About
Hi, my name is Melanie and I have always had a keen interest in how food interacts with our mind and body in ways that improve or deteriorate health. Having experienced chronic gut related conditions myself as well as having loved one's experience diet-related conditions, it makes it hard not to believe that diet is key to better health, wellbeing, and longevity.
Educating and empowering you about nutrition is my primary goal. This includes working with you to create sustainable healthy habits which not only has a direct effect on your health and wellbeing but also has a strong influence on those around you, the community, and the environment.
Not only does nutrition improve quality of life, it allows us to prevent, address, or manage chronic conditions that so much of the population have been taught to live with. While nutrition supports all areas of health, some key areas of health here are:
Gut & Digestive Health
Without a well-functioning gut we can't digest and absorb nutrients from the food we eat. When the gut is not functioning well, you may notice symptoms such as bloating, distension, reflux, pain, cramping, diarrhoea, constipation, food intolerances, etc. With the amount of information out about gut health, it can be quite confusing, however it is clear that gut health is linked to a myriad of health conditions such as IBS, IBD, SIBO, skin conditions, autoimmune conditions, neurological conditions, reproductive health, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
Immune System Support
When we start to feel unwell it is often after our body has already been fighting an infection or addressing inflammation for some time. Addressing the diet is a great place to start if you feel as though you are constantly fighting off colds and flus.
Childhood Nutrition
The habits kids form while growing up carries through into adulthood. It is a great time to start forming healthy habits. Common conditions in childhood nutrition are fussy eating, food intolerances or sensitivities, sensitive stomachs/gut conditions, and behaviour and concentration difficulties.
Hormone Health
Hormone health refers to reproductive health (endometriosis, PCOS, infertility), thyroid health, blood sugar regulation, weight management, and adrenal function - energy & fatigue.
Chronic Pain Management
Chronic pain refers to pain that extends beyond tissue damage, such as neuropathic (burning, tingling, stabbing, pins & needles), psychogenic (headaches, back pain, stomach pain without any observable tissue damage), and psychological pain (anxiety, depression). These types of pain that are expressed require more than nutrition, nutrition is a great supporting foundation to reduce severity and frequency as well as better understanding the root cause with the consultation process and further investigations.
